ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition. Its symptoms, and associated behaviours and traits are the result of a person’s brain developing differently.
People with ADHD can feel overwhelmed—emotionally, cognitively and/or socially due to working memory and/or processing speed challenges.
Biologically, they lack adequate amounts of dopamine and norepinephrine in their brains. This deficiency can make it difficult for people with ADHD to process and recall information efficiently and keep up with all of the activity around them. This can lead to impacts at home, work, school and relationships.
Neurological differences like autism and ADHD are the result of normal, natural variation in the human genome.
People with differences do not need to be cured; they need help and accommodation instead.
The goal of ADHD treatment is to ensure that people with ADHD can reach their full potential.
